Calcutta High Court Grants EBC Reader Platinum Edition Access to West Bengal Judicial Officers

On March 5th, 2025, the Calcutta High Court hosted an event on “Distribution of EBC Reader Platinum Edition to the Judicial Officers of West Bengal & Inauguration of Public Information System within the High Court”.

The event began with an introductory speech from Hon’ble Justice Debangsu Basak, who outlined the purpose of the event. He emphasised the integration of technology with the judiciary, particularly through platforms like EBC Reader, which enhances the efficiency and accuracy of justice delivery. Justice Basak highlighted the vast collection of resources that EBC Reader provides, making legal research more accessible and convenient.

He also introduced the newly launched ‘Public Information System’ at Calcutta High Court, which provides valuable details such as courtroom numbers, the live location of various departments, contact information, etc., helping litigants and professionals navigate the court system without needing to enter the building.

He highlighted that legal research is a pillar of the judicial system, and judges must be equipped with the latest tools and technology to ensure accurate and timely justice. Hon’ble Justice Sivagnanam praised EBC Reader for being a comprehensive digital legal library which simplifies legal research and delivers effective results.

Speaking about the EBC Reader initiative, Justice Sivagnanam remarked, “….it is an eLibrary, which I think many of their competitors don’t have, and which will be a boon to all the offices of the state. I am confident that there will be a positive impact on this initiative with the district judiciary.”

Further, he noted that while many lawyers have already switched to digital platforms, carrying scanned notes on their laptops or tablets, the pandemic has significantly affected the judiciary.

The event was full of enthusiasm and ended with a sense of advancement and optimism for the future of legal research in India.
